Chris Leads Economic Party Members to Declare Stance as Governments Oversight Party

Chris leads the Economic Party's core leaders and MPs in endorsing the Prime Minister's anti-corruption drive, declaring their stance as the "Government's Oversight Party" and affirming they have never negotiated for ministerial seats.

On 21 May 2026 GMT+7 at the Parliament, Mr. Chris Potranan, chairman of the Economic Party, along with Mr. Peeraphon Kanokwalai, party secretary-general and MP, Ms. Angsana Niamwanichkul, deputy secretary-general and MP, as well as party leaders and members, held a press conference to state the party’s political position regarding current corruption issues.

Mr. Chris stated that following the joint private-sector committee (JSCC) disclosure on the corruption situation, the Economic Party recognizes the Prime Minister's genuine determination to eradicate corruption. The party is ready to support this commitment and is currently cooperating with civil society and private-sector partners to seriously pursue transparency checks.

He affirmed the party’s key stance to serve as the government’s oversight party, responding to societal doubts about how coalition parties can monitor each other. The Economic Party can perform this role straightforwardly because it has never set conditions to negotiate for ministerial positions or ministry quotas.

“Since we have no conflicting interests and no ministry quotas to protect, we are ready to conduct transparent oversight. Being part of the coalition government does not mean we must ignore wrongdoing. With the Prime Minister sincerely committed to fighting corruption, the Economic Party is ready to serve as a tool for oversight to safeguard the nation’s interests and taxpayers’ money, based on principles of transparency, accountability, and without fear of anyone.” Mr. Chris stated.

In closing, the Economic Party leaders and members emphasized that declaring their role as the government’s oversight party is not intended to create discord within the coalition but to uphold good governance principles and promote maximum transparency in public administration as expected by the people.
