Anucha vows to actively advance Bangkok's potential, affirming he competes only with himself, begins confidently, and leaves the decision to the people.
On 21 May 2026 GMT+7, Anucha Burapachaisri, the Democrat Party's prospective candidate for Bangkok governor, spoke at the “Aerobic Fun in Front of the Store” event organized by Thairath Group in collaboration with Bangkok at the aerobics ground in Chatuchak Park. He explained his late candidacy announcement was due to the Democrat Party's thorough candidate selection process, saying the timing was just right and not excessively late.
When asked about his health care policies for Bangkok residents, Anucha said that anything within the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s authority must be addressed and improved, such as public parks, safety, roads, and exercise equipment in parks, which require ongoing attention. He also emphasized organizing exercise activities to create an inviting atmosphere for physical activity.
Regarding priorities from now until the election day, Anucha stated that besides public park policies, he will focus on traffic, public health, education, and pollution. He said he will actively engage in discussions about many core issues to help Bangkok residents understand that Bangkok can be more — a “City of Angels and more.”
On progress in appointing a prospective deputy governor, Anucha said that currently there is a working group invited to assist with various policies. Other positions will be decided later. He noted that a Bangkok governor cannot work alone; having a team and councilors in the Bangkok Metropolitan Council will make pushing policies easier, similar to how members of parliament help in the national assembly.
When asked if he worries about his competitors, Anucha said that regarding competition, he focuses first on competing with himself. If he fears others, his team might become nervous. Therefore, he starts confidently and lets the people decide. Asked if he would join the Democrat Party's executive team if he lost the governor race, Anucha responded that he wants to first present his policies for Bangkok people's consideration, and will address other matters afterward.
