Poll Shows Bangkok Residents Ready to Vote for New Governor, Want Councillors Who Understand Local Issues

The KPI Poll reveals that Bangkok residents are actively engaged, confirming their intention to vote for the new Bangkok governor. They also show strong interest in following election news and prefer councillors who have a deep understanding of real local issues.


On 22 May 2026, the King Prajadhipok's Institute released the results of the KPI Poll titled “Bangkok Election 2026: Public Interest in the Governor Election and Expectations for the New Councilors.” The poll emphasizes neutrality, accuracy, and usefulness with academic standards, avoiding political bias, aiming to capture the political voice of the people. The survey was conducted between 8-11 May 2026 among 1,600 Bangkok residents aged 18 and over, sampled across all districts.


When asked whether they would vote for the new Bangkok governor, 85.9% said they definitely would if they were Bangkok residents. Next, 9.2% said they probably would or were unsure, and 4.9% said they probably would not or definitely would not vote.


Meanwhile, 49.2% reported closely following news about the Bangkok governor and councilor elections “quite a lot” or “very much.” In contrast, 48.3% said they followed the news “somewhat little” or “very little,” and 2.5% did not follow at all.


Additionally, 26.4% want councilors who "truly understand the real local problems" the most. Following that, 21.3% want those who are "good at coordinating and solving local issues," 19.3% seek "honest, transparent, and accountable" councilors, 13.3% prefer councilors who "are easily accessible to the public," 9.5% want those who "dare to investigate and highlight problems," and 6.5% value "proven performance or experience in the area." Only 3.4% want councilors affiliated with "credible political parties," and 0.3% mentioned other qualities.



Looking at the importance by Bangkok district tiers, the "outer districts" prioritize "understanding real local problems" the most at 30.7%, followed by 22.9% who value "good coordination and problem-solving." In the "middle districts," 29.3% emphasize "knowing real local problems," followed by 22.2% who want "honest, transparent, and accountable" councilors. The "inner districts" showed a relatively balanced preference among "good coordination and problem-solving" (21.7%), "understanding real local problems" (21.1%), and "honest, transparent, and accountable" (20.3%).
