Introducing Sasithorn Prasitphornudom, who has declared her candidacy for another term as a Bangkok Metropolitan Council member for Phra Nakhon district. She is running independently, no longer with her former Prachachon Party. Her profile is notable, with experience in both the private sector and as a business owner.
On 22 May 2026, the election season for Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) members is approaching rapidly. Many political parties have begun unveiling their candidates for governor and council seats. This time, candidates include those remaining with their original parties, switching parties, and running as independents. Among them is Ms. Sasithorn Prasitphornudom, a Phra Nakhon district councilor, who has announced her readiness to continue working by running as an independent instead of under her former party, Prachachon.
An impressive profile: Ms. Sasithorn Prasitphornudom, nicknamed 'Kik,' grew up with strong ties to Phra Nakhon district, giving her a deep understanding of the area’s context, culture, and the challenges of the old urban community. Academically, she holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on international business management from Assumption University (ABAC) and a master's degree in financial management from Johnson & Wales University, USA. Besides being a former Phra Nakhon councilor, she is a young female executive, owns a jewelry business, and has worked as a policy analyst for consumer credit at Siam Commercial Bank headquarters and as a finance trainee manager at Nestlé (Thailand) Ltd.
Ms. Sasithorn entered politics by joining the Move Forward Party and ran for a Bangkok Metropolitan Council seat in Phra Nakhon district in 2022. She was elected and officially took office on 22 May 2022. After the Move Forward Party was dissolved, she joined the Prachachon Party. In August 2022, she was reported as one of two councilors planning to join the Pheu Thai Party due to photos with Pheu Thai councilors. However, she clarified that the meeting was solely for a Rahu worship ceremony, denying any political intent, and affirmed her continued work with Move Forward. She explained that meetings with Pheu Thai councilors were routine, as they regularly collaborate in the Bangkok council. This is common among democratic politicians to exchange ideas and work together. Later, when Prachachon announced its council candidates, her name was absent.
Ms. Sasithorn once said that the lessons learned from high-pressure work environments shaped her resilience today. The most important lesson was "discipline and persistence." While working in banking and managing a jewelry business, every second involved numbers and risks. That pressure taught her to stay calm, be meticulous, and take full responsibility for outcomes. Her strength today is not in shouting louder than others but in steadfastly working hard to prove that "results are the loudest voice."
As a former Phra Nakhon councilor, she highlights the strength of continuity in work under the concept "Doing more than talking: continuing existing projects and initiating new ones." This means completing ongoing projects while proposing new initiatives that meet the needs of both the younger generation and long-term residents of Phra Nakhon, advancing together harmoniously. Her return to the race is not just to defend her previous seat but to demonstrate that a "strong woman" with expertise in management is a key driver to propel Phra Nakhon towards a better future.
