Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi revealed that the government has approved changing the employment status of educational personnel from contract-based to temporary employees, totaling 7,588 positions, with a maximum monthly salary of 19,120 baht, effective 2 June.
On 23 May 2026, Second Lieutenant Phatdarasmi Thongsaluaykorn, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the government, through the Ministry of Education, is advancing policies to improve the quality of life for personnel in the education system. Recently, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) approved changing the employment status from contract service to temporary employee for a total of 7,588 positions within the 2026 fiscal year.
This status adjustment will enable contract teachers and support personnel to receive benefits and protections under labor laws more comprehensively. It also appropriately adjusts compensation to align with qualifications and job nature. The new salary rates set assistant teachers holding a 5-year bachelor's degree or a professional teaching certificate at a maximum of 19,120 baht per month, while those with a 4-year bachelor's degree will receive 18,220 baht per month. Teaching assistants and other support staff will receive compensation including a cost of living allowance of about 11,000 baht per month.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office said this upgrade in status provides job security and boosts morale for those working in the field. The government believes that better quality of life and welfare for teachers and educational personnel will directly enhance learning quality and sustainable development of Thai children. Currently, the Ministry of Education has instructed educational service areas and related agencies to expedite recruitment, selection, and contract preparation to complete the process promptly, allowing all personnel to begin work under the new contracts between 2 June and 30 September 2026. The recruitment process will be conducted with transparency, fairness, and accountability.
