Duangrit Leads Independent Council Candidate Team with Experienced Professionals to Tackle City Issues at the Root

Draft Duangrit leads the "Working Team" to field independent candidates for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council, promoting the vision to amend 100 city ordinances within one year, starting immediately with 15, to strengthen the city’s capacity and resolve issues at their root.

On 23 May 2026, Mr. Duangrit Benjathikul Chair of the Working Team led the group of BMC candidates into the 2026 Bangkok local election, bringing strengths as a leader and a new-generation political science scholar with comprehensive political experience in both administrative and legislative arenas. Understanding the BMC's structural mechanisms deeply, he assembled experts from various fields to overhaul and update outdated rules, resetting council standards to sustainably solve city problems at their source.

Mr. Duangrit emphasized the major vision to transform the city, believing that “the foundation for sustainable urban development is revising ordinances.” The Working Team is prepared to use council mechanisms and legal tools to remove old restrictions and maximize benefits for Bangkok residents through a "create-adjust-repeal" strategy supporting the city administration. Currently, Bangkok has 311 ordinances, with only 220 actively enforced. Many are outdated and hinder progress. If the Working Team enters the council in the first year, they aim to urgently review and amend 100 outdated ordinances, starting immediately with 15 amendments and drafting 5 new ones.

The ordinances cover issues such as livelihoods, street vendors, transportation, parking, and clean air. Over a four-year term, the Working Team plans to review and amend all 220 existing ordinances and introduce at least 50 new ordinances necessary for Bangkok residents to keep pace with the city’s rapid changes.

Mr. Duangrit stated this will be a long-term roadmap laying the foundation for Bangkok’s future stability over the next four years. Regardless of who becomes governor, administration, or legislators, a standardized system prioritizing residents’ quality of life will remain in place. He reaffirmed that the BMC must operate transparently, based on verifiable data, open to scrutiny, and inclusive—allowing everyone to voice opinions to build a political system truly belonging to Bangkok’s people.

According to reports, the Working Team will hold a major launch event to introduce the team leader, urban policy experts, and 27 independent council candidates—both veterans and newcomers with expertise from diverse professional backgrounds—at the Tobacco Factory, Benjakiti Forest Park (amphitheater near the museum building) on Saturday, 23 May 2026, from 16:00 to 17:30. The campaign theme is “Working People Make Bangkok Possible,” with the slogan “Bangkok Is Possible.”
