Government Warns That Sharing, Liking, or Distributing Pornographic Clips Carries Penalties Up to 100,000 Baht Fine and 5 Years Imprisonment

The government is not complacent and warns that sharing, liking, or distributing pornographic clips carries penalties of up to a 100,000 baht fine and up to 5 years in prison for importing pornographic data into computer systems. It advises reporting such content and contacting Cyber Police at 1441.

On 24 May 2026, Ms. Ploytale Laksameasangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that following viral pornographic content posted on social media, which attracted many viewers liking and sharing, the government is not ignoring or turning a blind eye to these illegal acts. Relevant agencies have been ordered to urgently investigate and bring offenders and those distributing indecent and pornographic content online to justice firmly and decisively.

The government reiterates that such actions violate the Computer Crime Act. This includes the offenses of importing false information into computer systems under Section 14 (1) and importing pornographic data into computer systems under Section 14 (4), which carry severe penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment, a fine up to 100,000 baht, or both.

“Individuals who like or share pornographic clips commit offenses equivalent to the original perpetrators, as stipulated in Section 14 (5) of the Computer Crime Act. This provision states that anyone who distributes or forwards computer data knowing it to be false (Section 14 (1)) or pornographic (Section 14 (5)) also commits an offense punishable by up to 5 years imprisonment, a fine up to 100,000 baht, or both.”

The Deputy Government Spokesperson concluded by urging the public to report indecent and pornographic clips immediately by pressing the report button and notifying Cyber Police at 1441. The government requests cooperation to build a safe society by not supporting harmful content aimed merely at gaining likes and shares, as such content can encourage imitation, especially among children and youth.
