It warned that candidates who knowingly have disqualifying characteristics face imprisonment of 1 to 10 years, fines up to 200,000 baht, and court petitions to revoke voting rights for 20 years.
On 25 May 2026 GMT+7, the Office of the Election Commission published an announcement by the Director of Elections for Local Administrative Organizations regarding the arrangement of elections for the Governor of Bangkok, members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC), Mayor of Pattaya City, and members of the Pattaya City Council. These elections will be held on Sunday, 28 June 2026 GMT+7, with candidate registration open from 28 May 2026 to 1 June 2026 GMT+7.
Furthermore, the EC strongly emphasized that "Those intending to run for election must self-verify that they possess the qualifications and do not have any disqualifying characteristics as prescribed by law. Any individual who registers knowing they lack qualifications or have disqualifying traits will face imprisonment from 1 to 10 years, fines ranging from 20,000 to 200,000 baht, and the court may order the revocation of their election rights for 20 years." This is in accordance with Section 120 of the Local Council or Local Executive Election Act B.E. 2562 (2019) and its amendments.
