Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration Vows Nationwide Crackdown on Registration Work to Curb Fake Nationality and Sham Marriages

A nationwide crackdown on registration work is underway as the Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration stressed the need for a “Sense of Urgency” while targeting four high-risk areas: fake nationality and sham marriages.

On 25 May 2026, Mr. Naruecha Kosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration and Central Registrar, chaired an online meeting with registrars from 50 Bangkok districts and provinces nationwide to review registration and ID card procedures. He emphasized that registration is the core of national security and serves as the country’s major big data repository. All officials must have a “Sense of Urgency,” be alert to inconsistencies, and strictly apply “Check & Balance” principles to daily reports, with supervisors sharing responsibility.

Simultaneously, the Department ordered closing loopholes in four main fraud areas: 1. Adding foreign workers’ names (pink cards) requires verifying actual residence to prevent impersonation; 2. Resolving duplicate identities and rigorously granting nationality to minorities within five days per Cabinet resolution to prevent entitlement abuse; 3. Marriage registration must investigate genuine relationships to stop sham marriage schemes; and 4. Complaints must never be rejected even if documents are incomplete, prioritizing a Service Mind approach.

Additionally, three new systems were launched to enhance efficiency: a revamped Call Center 1548 that clearly separates staff and public lines; consolidated operational guidelines and circulars since 2024 standardized nationwide; and a key alert system via the ThaID app that immediately notifies district chiefs or directors of high-risk transactions such as first-time ID issuance or foreign marriages. The Director-General concluded that honest service protects officials, whom the Department fully supports, but any corruption or bribery will be dealt with decisively, leaving no room for wrongdoers.
