The Secretary-General of the Election Commission revealed that progress in the Bangkok and Pattaya elections is proceeding as planned. He emphasized selecting polling officials carefully to reduce errors and expressed no concern about campaign policy violations, believing candidates and their campaign assistants understand their limits.
At 09:50 on 26 May 2026, at TK Palace Hotel, Chaeng Watthana, Mr. Saowang Bunmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), spoke about readiness for the elections of the Bangkok Governor, Bangkok Council members, Pattaya Mayor, and Pattaya City Council members. He said the EC office is following its established plan, with special focus on preparing polling officials to minimize errors. For example, in Pattaya, polling officials are selected from voters believed to be ready and capable, who then receive training. This is feasible because Pattaya has relatively few polling stations.
Mr. Saowang added that in Bangkok, which has about 6,000 polling stations, emphasis is placed on the chairpersons of these stations to oversee other polling officials so they perform their duties correctly and acceptably. Another key aspect is encouraging public participation, as with all elections. He believes the elections in Bangkok and Pattaya will be intense in both places but is not worried about candidates or their supporters violating the law. He personally believes each candidate is knowledgeable, qualified, and politically experienced, having likely studied the relevant laws thoroughly.
