The government supports Thailand’s global role as the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) assumes the chairmanship of INTOSAI’s Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA) for a six-year term, advancing international environmental audit standards.
On 26 May 2026, Ms. Lalida Pertviwatana, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Cabinet acknowledged the OAG’s assumption of the chair and secretary roles of the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (INTOSAI WGEA) for the 2025–2031 term. The Cabinet also approved related agencies to support technical data, missions, and operations to strengthen Thailand’s role in the global environmental audit arena.
Ms. Lalida said the OAG was elected chair and secretary of INTOSAI WGEA on 9 January 2024 and was officially endorsed at the 25th INTOSAI Congress held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, in October 2025, with a total term of six years.
INTOSAI WGEA is a key global working group on environmental auditing. It promotes knowledge exchange, develops environmental audit standards and guidelines, conducts research and training, and fosters cooperation among member countries’ supreme audit institutions. Its scope includes major issues such as climate change, natural resource management, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ms. Lalida stated that Thailand’s role reflects international confidence in its governance and public sector auditing capabilities. The OAG will lead international initiatives such as academic conferences, policy proposals, and development of environmental audit guidelines in collaboration with member countries worldwide.
Several government agencies have expressed readiness to support the OAG’s mission, including the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Water Resources Office, Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), and the National Economic and Social Development Council. They will provide data on environment, disasters, pollution, energy, water, climate change, as well as satellite and geospatial technologies.
The government also sees this role as a means to elevate Thailand as a leader in "digital environmental auditing" on the world stage and to support national environmental policies aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, carbon neutrality targets, and concrete climate change responses.
“The government is ready to support the OAG’s work to ensure Thailand plays a proactive role internationally, builds credibility in environmental governance, and promotes global cooperation for sustainable development.” the Deputy Spokesperson said.
