The Department of Provincial Administration conducted a comprehensive sweep across 878 districts, testing the urine of nearly 300,000 local leaders. Forty-seven individuals tested positive, and the Director-General ordered their immediate dismissal.
On 26 May 2026, Mr. Naru-cha Kosasivilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, revealed that on 25 May, the department launched a rapid operation called “Clean Your Own House.” This involved urine drug testing of subdistrict heads, village chiefs, deputy village chiefs, subdistrict inspectors, local doctors, members of the Territorial Defense Volunteers, and administrative officials nationwide across all 878 districts. This initiative responds to the Prime Minister’s and Minister of Interior’s policy to advance the campaign “Relieve Suffering, Promote Happiness, Protect Peace, Eradicate Drugs, Defeat Criminals” and to demonstrate transparency and elevate local leaders as reliable pillars for their communities.
In this sweep, a total of 286,553 administrative personnel underwent urine testing. The results showed 286,506 individuals tested negative, but a “jackpot” of 47 tested positive for drugs, representing 0.02% of those tested. This group is considered a malignant element that must be removed from the system swiftly.
Mr. Naru-cha added that this measure is part of driving the government’s “Four Pillars of Security” policy (border control, network suppression, rehabilitation, and local-level prevention). Since subdistrict heads and village chiefs are supposed to serve as watchdogs but have violated this trust themselves, the Department of Provincial Administration has established strict management guidelines, viewing such conduct as a dereliction of duty and behavior unbecoming of their positions.
Regarding sanctions for those involved with drugs, district chiefs are ordered to immediately form investigative committees to collect evidence, file charges, and suspend the accused pending official confirmation from state hospital laboratory results. If confirmed positive, the district chief will forward the case to the provincial governor to promptly dismiss the individual from their position.
The Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration concluded by emphasizing that all personnel under the department must conduct themselves as exemplary figures. Anyone found involved with drugs or damaging the honor, dignity, and public trust in their roles will face strict, transparent legal and disciplinary action without exception or protection for wrongdoers.
