Cabinet Approves Production of Commemorative Coins for the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games

The Cabinet has given the green light to produce 20-baht commemorative coins for the 33rd SEA Games and the 13th ASEAN Para Games.

On 26 May 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Lakshamisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced that the Cabinet approved in principle two draft ministerial regulations: one defining the characteristics of the commemorative coins for the 33rd SEA Games, and the other for the 13th ASEAN Para Games, as proposed by the Ministry of Finance. The next step is to send these drafts to the Office of the Council of State for review before proceeding with the legal process.

The purpose of producing these two commemorative coins is to mark Thailand’s honor in hosting major regional sports events, to express gratitude for the royal benevolence, and to promote the prestige of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen both domestically and internationally. Additionally, it serves to publicize Thailand's reputation to athletes and tourists worldwide.

Regarding the details, both commemorative coins are made of white metal (a copper-nickel alloy) with a face value of 20 baht (standard type). The production budget will be drawn from the revolving fund for coin management, state valuables, and production expenses for fiscal year 2026.

The Ministry of Finance has already received royal permission to produce the commemorative coins based on the designs submitted for royal approval. Thailand hosted the 33rd SEA Games from 9 to 20 December 2025 GMT+7 and the 13th ASEAN Para Games from 20 to 26 January 2026 GMT+7, marking a major success in the country's sports history.
