The Kla Tham Party affirms it will not protect Chonnapat, emphasizing adherence to legal principles and parliamentary procedures, allowing the justice process to proceed.
On 26 May 1983, Atthakorn Sirilattayakorn, spokesperson for the Kla Tham Party, commented on the House of Representatives' urgent consideration of a request to permit the summoning of Chonnapat Naksua, Songkhla MP from Kla Tham Party, to acknowledge charges and be questioned during the parliamentary session, following a petition from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). He said that party leaders are currently meeting with the party's MPs but reiterated that the party will consider this matter based on the intent of the law and past parliamentary practices.
“Although Kla Tham is a new political party, it includes MPs with multiple terms of political experience. We therefore place importance on the principles of the legislature. What will happen this Friday must be viewed in light of the law’s intent and how similar cases have been handled before. We must consider the broader context, not just focus on any individual,” Atthakorn said.
The Kla Tham spokesperson added that during the election campaign, he saw Chonnapat express sincerity and confirm his readiness to undergo scrutiny. He believes that after the parliamentary session ends around July, Chonnapat will likely proceed with the legal process. The case’s outcome does not depend on the parliament but on how Chonnapat defends himself and presents evidence during investigation and examination.
Regarding Kla Tham Party’s position on this issue, the party confirms it will not protect anyone if wrongdoing is proven. The party will uphold legislative principles and parliamentary privilege during sessions as a preliminary stance and allow the justice process to proceed correctly.
