Democrat Party Tests Chonnaphat Awaiting Explanation to Parliament on Grey Capital and Gambling Website Issues

The Democrat Party is testing Chonnaphat Naksua, Kla Tham MP, to explain to parliament regarding grey capital and online gambling issues before voting on sending the case for prosecution. Regarding Seri Phisut’s matter, if it does not involve legal technicalities and is aimed at ensuring transparency, the party is ready to cooperate.

26 May 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, spokesperson for the Democrat Party, announced the results of the Democrat Party members of parliament (MPs) meeting, revealing two major issues currently attracting public attention. The first concerns Mr. Chonnaphat Naksua, Songkhla MP from the Kla Tham Party, who is about to face a vote on sending his case for prosecution on 28 May. The case involves money laundering and online gambling networks.

Mr. Pongsakorn stated that, in principle, parliamentary immunity exists to protect MPs from executive power harassment during sessions. However, issues around grey capital and legal cases are of great public interest, with a strong demand for legal accuracy, which the Democrat Party takes very seriously.

"Therefore, the party has given Mr. Chonnaphat the opportunity to explain to parliament whether he has been harassed by executive power. If he provides an explanation, it will be considered again. If he does not explain or the explanation is unacceptable, the state will proceed with further investigation," he added.

The second issue concerns Pol. Gen. Seri Phisut Temiyavet, party-list MP and leader of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, who requested Democrat Party MPs to co-sign a petition related to cases involving Buriram and some members of the Bhumjaithai Party to submit to independent organizations. The Democrat Party confirmed it has never refused to co-sign. However, submitting a petition to independent bodies now requires clear and strict details. The party is coordinating with Pol. Gen. Seri Phisut to clarify the petition's details and legal aspects first. Further consultations will follow. The Democrat Party affirms it is fully willing to support any investigations aimed at transparency.
