Prime Minister to Welcome Vietnamese President on Official Visit to Thailand, May 27-28, Discussing Trade and Upgrading Strategic Partnership

The Prime Minister is preparing to open the Government House to welcome Vietnamese President To Lam and his wife during their official visit to Thailand from May 27 to 28. The visit celebrates the 50th anniversary of Thailand-Vietnam relations and aims to elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership.

On 27 May 2026, Ms. Saratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, announced that His Excellency Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, along with his wife Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly, is scheduled for an official visit to Thailand as a guest of the government from 27 to 28 May 2026. This marks President To Lam’s first visit to Thailand since assuming office, with Thailand being the first ASEAN country he visits officially as Vietnam’s president.

The spokesperson said this visit is highly significant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam under the theme “New Chapter of the 50th Thailand–Viet Nam Diplomatic Relations: Enhancing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.” The aim is to drive forward the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) with tangible outcomes across security, economic, and trade cooperation through the implementation of the Three Connects strategy, as well as collaboration in science, technology, innovation, and people-to-people relations.

On 28 May 2026, the Prime Minister will officially welcome President To Lam and Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly at the Government House, including a ceremonial honor guard inspection and official discussions both in small and full delegations. The talks will focus on ways to promote cooperation across all dimensions, including economy, trade, investment, security, and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.

Following the discussions, both sides will witness the signing ceremony of memoranda of understanding (MOUs) between Thai and Vietnamese agencies. They will also co-chair the launch of the 50th anniversary logo for Thailand–Vietnam relations and hold a joint press conference at Santi Maitri Building (Inner Wing), Government House.

Additionally, the Prime Minister and President To Lam will co-chair the opening of the Thailand–Viet Nam Business Forum, a key platform to promote economic and investment cooperation between the private sectors of both countries. The forum will provide an opportunity for Thai entrepreneurs investing in Vietnam to engage directly with Vietnamese leaders to present suggestions, hear support measures, and jointly address business obstacles, fostering a long-term win-win economic partnership.

Subsequently, the Prime Minister and his wife will host an official dinner to honor the Vietnamese leader and his wife at the Santi Maitri Building (Outer Wing) of the Government House.

This official visit by Vietnam’s leader reflects the close relationship and high-level trust between Thailand and Vietnam. It also presents an important opportunity to advance strategic cooperation in all dimensions to strengthen stability, security, and economic growth for both countries and the ASEAN region in the future.

Meanwhile, reporters have noted that the Government House has prepared the venue with decorations including Thai and Vietnamese national flags and signage to welcome President To Lam.
