The timeline for the 2026 Bangkok governor election is unveiled, covering the period from the end of the current term up to election day, vote counting, and the announcement of unofficial results. Candidate registration opens tomorrow, 28 May, as the first day. It is emphasized that elections will be held simultaneously in both Bangkok and Pattaya.


27 May 2026 marks another important and closely watched election day for the Bangkok governor and Bangkok Council members, as well as the Pattaya mayor and Pattaya council members. The Election Commission has scheduled the election for Sunday, 28 June 2026, with key timeline events as follows.

May 2026

  • 21 May 2026: The current Bangkok governor and council members complete their terms.
  • 23 May 2026: The Director of the Local Election Commission announces the election date.
  • 28 May – 1 June 2026: Candidate registration period, lasting five days.

June 2026

  • 2 June 2026: Final day to announce polling stations and locations, and the final day to publish the voter registration list.
  • 8 June 2026: Publication of the official list of candidates.
  • 11 June 2026: Final day to file complaints with the Election Commission regarding candidate registration refusals.
  • 17 June 2026: Last day to change polling stations and the final day to add or withdraw candidate names.
  • 20 June 2026: Last day to notify the appointment of candidate representatives.
  • 21–27 June 2026: Period to notify reasons for inability to vote (7 days before election day).
  • 28 June 2026: Election day for the Bangkok governor, council members, Pattaya mayor, and council members. Vote counting begins after polls close at 5:00 p.m., with unofficial results announced the same day.
  • 29 June – 5 July 2026: Period to notify reasons for inability to vote (7 days after election day).

July 2026

  • 28 July 2026: Final day to announce election results under Section 17, Paragraph 1. If the election is conducted honestly and fairly, the Election Commission must verify and announce the results within 30 days from election day.

August 2026

  • 27 August 2026: Final day to announce election results under Section 17, Paragraph 2. In cases where there are suspicions of unfair or dishonest conduct, the Election Commission has authority to investigate and must complete the announcement of results as soon as possible but no later than 60 days after election day. This is also the final day to announce names of those disqualified from voting.
