Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has opened the procedures for drawing candidate numbers for the Bangkok governor and members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC)."}],
On 27 May 2026, reporters noted that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration began accepting applications for the Bangkok governor election, scheduled from 28 May to 1 June 2026, between 08:30 and 16:30 at the Bangkok Room, B2 floor, Irawat Pattana Building. Candidates arriving before 08:30 will be asked to write their arrival time and sign the registration form themselves. There is one registration and document verification point on the left side before entering the Bangkok Room, with four application desks available.
At 08:30, officials will draw a red line under the last name on the list, marking the group of candidates who arrived simultaneously and thus have the right to agree on the order for the lottery to determine the “order of application submission” and the “candidate number used for campaigning.” If they cannot agree on the order, the lottery process will be conducted.
The Bangkok Permanent Secretary, serving as the director of the local election for Bangkok, will explain the application and lottery procedures. There will be two lottery rounds: the first to decide the order for submitting applications, and the second where candidates, in that order, draw their official candidate numbers for campaigning, which will be final.
For council member candidates, the same procedure applies; however, the district subcommittee chairpersons will conduct the number draws if candidates cannot agree on the order. Separate registration and preliminary document checks are arranged for each of the 50 districts inside the Bangkok Room to reduce waiting times and accommodate the expected large number of applicants.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has deployed nearly 1,500 staff divided among application reception, document verification, facilitation, and security teams. Access to the application area requires registration and an access permit. Each candidate is allowed one companion. Guidelines for media personnel are set to avoid disruption and ensure proper coverage.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration also reminds prospective candidates to verify their qualifications and prepare complete application documents. Council member candidates must be at least 25 years old with no educational requirements. Governor candidates must be at least 35 years old, hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent, have been registered residents in Bangkok continuously for at least one year by election day, and not possess any disqualifying legal conditions under local laws.
Key documents for application include the election application form, photo, copies of ID card and house registration, medical certificate, educational credentials for governor candidates, and proof of personal income tax payment for the past three years or a certification of non-payment. Application fees are 10,000 baht for council members and 50,000 baht for the governor.
