Songsak Dismisses Peoples Partys Blue Regime Narrative, Declares Thailand Has Only One System

Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri disregards the People's Party's attempt to spin the rhetoric of a "Blue Regime," asserting that Thailand has only one form of government. He acknowledged that while people cannot be prevented from thinking otherwise, the truth is different.

On 27 May 1983, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri was interviewed regarding the recent remarks by leaders and members of the People's Party referencing the term "Blue Regime." Songsak expressed surprise and firmly reiterated the country's governance stance, stating he was unaware what regime the People's Party referred to. In reality, Thailand has only one long-standing system: a democracy under a constitutional monarchy. This system has been deeply ingrained in Thai society. He said he did not understand who was labeling it otherwise.

When asked whether he saw this as political rhetoric used to attack each other and if it was necessary to clarify to the People's Party, the Deputy Prime Minister replied that people cannot be stopped from thinking as they please, but the truth is not as claimed. He questioned why the government or he himself should explain something that has never been true.

Asked about the color "blue" being viewed as a symbol of the Bhumjaithai Party, Songsak declined to comment, saying briefly that people are imagining it. When asked if such discrediting might incite confusion and unrest in the country, he said he could not speak for those who think that way. What matters most, he added, is that Thailand has been a peaceful country throughout, and it is everyone’s responsibility to help maintain that peace.
