Procedures for Voting in the 2026 Bangkok Governor and Council Elections: Emphasis on Marking an X

The Election Commission announced the procedures for entering the voting booth and exercising voting rights in the 2026 Bangkok Governor and Council elections, emphasizing that voters must mark their chosen candidates with an 'X' only.

On 27 May 2026, the Election Commission confirmed that the Bangkok Governor and Council elections will take place on Sunday, 28 June 2026. Candidate registration will be open from 28 May to 1 June 2026.

At the same time, the Election Commission emphasized the voting procedures for eligible voters, detailing the steps for entering the voting booth to cast votes for the Bangkok Governor and Council candidates as follows.

Voting procedures for the Bangkok Governor and Council elections.

1. Verify your name and number on the voter list posted at the polling station.

2. Present identification such as a national ID card (expired cards are accepted) or other official photo ID issued by government agencies, including electronic ID. Then, sign or fingerprint the voter list in the presence of the polling official.

3. Receive two ballots—one for the Bangkok Governor and one for the Council. Sign or fingerprint the stub of each ballot.

4. Mark your ballot with an 'X'. Enter the voting booth and mark your choice with an 'X'. Mark the ballots in the designated spaces as follows.

  • On the Bangkok Governor ballot, select one candidate.
  • On the Council ballot, select one candidate per district.
  • If you do not wish to vote for any candidate, mark an 'X' in the box indicating no selection, then fold the ballot.

5. Deposit the folded ballots yourself into the ballot box.

Voting hours are from 08:00 to 17:00 on 28 June 2026.

The Election Commission also provides special assistance for persons with disabilities, the elderly, or those with physical impairments. Polling station officials may assist voters under supervision, ensuring that the vote reflects the voter's intent. If a voter cannot mark the ballot themselves due to physical limitations, another person or official may mark it on their behalf with consent, preserving the secrecy and directness of the vote.
