On 27 May 2026, multiple political parties and independent candidates began unveiling their lineups for Bangkok Governor and Bangkok Council (BMC) elections. Former Governor Chatchat Sittipunt announced his bid for a second term as an independent and plans to register at 6:00 a.m. Meanwhile, the Prachachon Party fielded Dr. Joe Chaiwat Satvorawijit, a former party-list MP, who will arrive by bus with all 50 council candidates at 7:00 a.m. The Democrat Party introduced Anucha Buranachaisri, former government spokesperson during General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s administration, who will come with council candidates and party executives including party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, deputy leader Korn Chatikavanij, Sakolthee Phattiyakul, and advisor Ong-art Klampaiboon at 6:30 a.m.
Additionally, Mallika Boonmittrakul Mahasuk, former Democrat MP running as an independent; Pasapong Chaiwiriyavanich, a Bangkok Governor candidate backed by Mongkolkitti Suksintharanon (“Tae 007”), leader of the 'Bangkok Flying' group; Komsan Punwichatikul (“Dr. Joe”), heir to renowned Thai fortune teller Phanuwat Punwichatikul and former senator known as “Sin Sae Phanuwat”; Police Lieutenant General Chanthep Sesavej, running under the Economic Party; Mom Luang Korakasiwat Kasemsri, an independent energy expert and social activist; and Waranchai Chokchana, a political activist who has run for Bangkok Governor seven times, are also running.
Registration for Bangkok Governor candidates will be held from 28 May to 1 June 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Bangkok Room, B2 floor, Irawat Pattana Building. Candidates arriving before 8:30 a.m. will self-record their arrival time and sign registration sheets. One registration and document verification point is set up to the left before entering the Bangkok Room, with four registration desks available.
At 8:30 a.m., officials will draw a red line under the last registered candidate’s name, marking the group arriving simultaneously. These candidates may negotiate the order for the “submission sequence” and “campaign number” allocation. If no agreement is reached, a lottery will decide the order and campaign numbers.
Officials also reminded prospective candidates to carefully verify their qualifications and prepare complete documentation. Councilor candidates must be at least 25 years old with no educational requirement. Governor candidates must be at least 35 years old, hold at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent, have been registered residents in Bangkok continuously for at least one year before election day, and must not have any disqualifying characteristics under local election laws.
