On 27 May 2026, Dr. Prayoon Krongyos officially announced his candidacy for Bangkok governor once again. A longtime Bangkok official, Prayoon appeared with friends. Although he is 66 years old this year, he showed his physical fitness by doing 50 push-ups to demonstrate his readiness for the race. He stated he can do more push-ups than former governor Chadchart Sittipunt and declared he wants a chance to lead the capital's development once more.
Dr. Prayoon Krongyos was born on 16 March 1960 and is currently 66 years old.
He completed the equivalent of Grade 7 by passing a provincial exam in Khon Kaen.
He completed Mathayom 5 at the Pali Triam Udom Suksa School affiliated with Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University.
He holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Srinakharinwirot University, Prasarnmit campus.
He earned two master's degrees: a Master of Education from Chulalongkorn University and a Master of Public Administration from the Faculty of Political Science at Chulalongkorn University.
He holds a Doctor of Education degree from Eastern Asia University.
Career Path
He began civil service in 1980 and retired recently. He started as a teacher at Wat Khlong Toei School under the Khlong Toei District Office, then advanced to educational administration positions including six assistant district education officers at Prawet District Office. He steadily progressed in the education sector as district education officer at Wattana and Bang Kapi districts, head of education at Bang Kapi, and in 2009 was promoted to assistant district director at Bang Kapi, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, and Prawet district offices, respectively.
In 2013, he became director of the Teacher Development Division at the Education Bureau, then served as senior inspector at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Secretariat. In 2016, he was appointed director of Khlong San district and retired in 2020 as deputy director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
In the 2022 Bangkok gubernatorial election, Dr. Prayoon ran as a candidate and received 2,219 votes, accounting for 0.08 percent of the total.
