Dr. Joe Champions Simple Bangkok Campaign, Vows to Eradicate Corruption Immediately if Elected Governor

Dr. Joe Chaiwat, People's Party candidate for Bangkok governor, promotes a simple Bangkok campaign, vowing a quick victory in eradicating corruption in Bangkok immediately if elected governor. Meanwhile, Viroj admits the difficult task of facing the incumbent champion Chadchart and intends to compete through policy.

At 07:31 on 28 May 2026 at Bangkok City Hall 2 in Din Daeng, Mr. Chaiwat Sathaworawijit, also known as Dr. Joe, candidate for Bangkok governor, told the "Morning Green Head News" program on Thairath TV that he and his team of 50 district council candidates and the People's Party promote a simple Bangkok policy to address daily challenges faced by Bangkok residents, such as commuting, trading, and accessing medical care. Currently, the city does not provide adequate support. The 'Simple Bangkok' campaign is thus central, aimed at meeting the needs of Bangkok residents and offering better opportunities and choices for the city.

Mr. Chaiwat added that the Quick Win policy would be among the first noticeable changes if he becomes Bangkok governor. The administration would take a serious approach to tackle corruption, aiming to recover at least 10 billion baht of Bangkok citizens' money, and address extortion and under-the-table payments worth another 10 billion baht. This will be managed through technological systems and the administration’s strong will, starting from the root of the problem.

When asked what Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, former Bangkok governor, had not done that Mr. Chaiwat would, he replied that it involved systemic reforms addressing major issues, such as decentralizing Bangkok’s administration. The People's Party has proposed legal amendments to enhance Bangkok’s management authority.

Mr. Chaiwat said he wants Bangkok residents to think beyond simply choosing a governor. He and the People's Party, along with their team of 50 district council candidates, come with a development plan for Bangkok that will be implemented at the district level and are ready to present this vision to the people of Bangkok.

Meanwhile, Mr. Viroj Lakkhanaadisorn said he acknowledges that facing Mr. Chadchart is a tough challenge; like in boxing, the champion must defend the title. However, the governor candidates’ term is about continuing work and addressing systemic problems that must be resolved to align with national-level solutions, such as drainage and canal clearing, which Mr. Chadchart has handled well. Large-scale investments to increase drainage capacity toward the Gulf of Thailand represent policy competition aimed at future urban development.
