Mallika Boonmitrakul Mahasuk, candidate for Bangkok Governor in 2026, is confident she can begin work immediately upon election without delay, saying any winning candidate number will do.
At 08:00 on 28 May 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Mallika Boonmitrakul Mahasuk, candidate for Governor of Bangkok, running as an independent candidate, gave an interview before registering to run for Bangkok Governor in 2026, saying she is 100% confident and has prepared all 12 strategic plans thoroughly. She and her team have held multiple brainstorming sessions, and every plan and operation is fully prepared so they can begin work immediately.
When asked if she hoped to get a particular candidate number, Ms. Mallika replied, “Today, I intend that if I get a number that voters can easily mark, that’s good—any number that wins.” Regarding whether it must be a single-digit number, she said, “It can be any number as long as Dr. Mallika wins and becomes Bangkok Governor, then I can help the people and start working immediately.”
Asked about the most urgent issue in Bangkok that she can no longer tolerate after four years, Ms. Mallika said the peak issue that made her decide to run was the PM2.5 dust problem. It has become critical, preventing the city from matching others because it has the world's worst dust and pollution levels. Anyone who can tolerate it does so, but for her and her team, it is intolerable. Therefore, they have prepared an action plan for managing pollution, including monitoring and integration efforts. They aim to sign an MOU with the Ministry of Agriculture, which oversees the Royal Rainmaking Department, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, related to the Pollution Control Department.
She is determined that multi-agency cooperation will yield clear results quickly without delay, because dust and pollution affect residents’ quality of life, reducing work and daily life efficiency. Life is already difficult; it should not be made harder. Therefore, Bangkok has a duty to provide clean air for its people. PM2.5 is the issue they will address immediately, and it was the decisive factor in her candidacy.
Beyond the 12 action plans, they will use AI innovations to oversee all operations, including AI Traffic systems to improve traffic management and AI Radar to detect clouds for water drainage planning, demonstrating effective city leadership.
Additionally, there is a successful loan pairing project she advised ministers on, aimed at economic recovery and helping Bangkok’s SMEs survive crises like the recent energy crisis. There are also plans to create a crime-free city, with operations monitoring grey capital and illicit activities exploiting the large city. They are prepared to perform these duties, including making the city safe 24 hours for women, men, children, and adults to be outside at night.
They will collaborate with the Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Industries to plan for approximately 200,000–300,000 job vacancies in the capital amid the Iran-US crisis. They also plan to expand creative economic zones, such as coffee shops and citywide internet access in 50 districts, to open public spaces. Bangkok experiences 120 days of heat annually, with peak temperatures rising due to global warming. As a concrete jungle, people may not realize how much hotter the world and Bangkok have become, reaching 35–38°C. They intend to integrate solutions with all stakeholders.
As Bangkok Governor, she cannot work alone; cooperation from many parties is essential—hence integration. She will make agreements with all relevant ministries. Confident in her experience working in three ministries and serving as assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister and ministers, she believes if Bangkok needs a governor who can act immediately, she and her team can deliver. She invites everyone to trust her commitment from the start.
When asked how to increase popularity, Ms. Mallika said she is grateful for everyone’s support. Polls from various sources reflect public opinion that must be heard. Many citizens have yet to express views, so she believes it is not yet time to decide which polls will guide voters or be decisive. Polls can change if voters recognize her determination, sincerity, and ability to act quickly.
“Having Dr. Mallika as governor means transforming a major global city because action can be swift—no need to wait four years or another eight. You can breathe today, live tomorrow, and have an immediate future without waiting for anyone or needing to improve skills or learn the job first. Dr. Mallika was once assistant to Khun Chai Sukhumphan (MR Sukhumphan Boribatra), a former Bangkok Governor. Since 2007, we have worked in all 50 districts. Observing urban issues from 2007 to now shows problems remain unresolved. Therefore, I believe waiting longer causes citizens to lose out continuously and lose quality of life.”
