Anucha shouted "Democrat Fight" before drawing candidate numbers, explaining that the five policy points originate from listening to real problems faced by 50 district council candidates. He asked for a chance and promised full transparency. Meanwhile, Abhisit declared the goal this time is to secure one more vote than others.
On 28 May 2026 at 7:40 a.m., at Bangkok City Hall 2, Mr. Anucha Boopachaisri, the Democrat Party's candidate for Bangkok governor, arrived accompanied by district council candidates and party executives, including party leader Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, deputy leaders Mr. Korn Chatikavanij, Mr. Sakolthee Phattiyakul, and advisor Mr. Ong-art Klampaiboon.
Mr. Anucha and his team traveled by bus. Upon arriving at the Airawat Phatthana building, he greeted the media, raised his fist, and shouted "Democrat Fight."
Mr. Anucha told reporters that the policies presented were developed after conversations with the public and all 50 district council candidates. This resulted in five key policies: convenient transportation, a clean city, comfortable living, increased income, and full accountability. Regarding Bangkok's corruption issues, he said the first step is to open access to data and information to reveal irregularities, such as conflicts of interest in procurement. The party is willing to make this data public for easy access without concealment. The "App to Watch the State" is only part of this effort, but the main focus is on all existing Bangkok information, including contract disclosures and auctions, so the public can see transparency and correctness.
When asked about the Bangkok governor candidate's goals amid the Democrat Party's revival, Mr. Abhisit said serving the people of Bangkok is a key party mission. All party components are ready to serve Bangkok residents because their problems are linked to national issues. Moving Bangkok forward requires mechanisms at all levels. The party is prepared with policies and personnel and hopes Bangkok voters will use this opportunity to reflect on the capital’s future direction. Everything must be transparent, because honest politics and governance are fundamental.
Asked how many votes are needed to consider the Democrat Party's comeback, Mr. Abhisit said winning by just one vote more than others would be sufficient.
Later, the Bangkok governor candidate team gave additional interviews on Thairath TV. When asked why Bangkok voters should choose a Democrat governor, Mr. Anucha said it is because the party has district council candidates in all 50 districts and plans to address issues at all levels, from local to national, simultaneously. They aim to reach the public extensively. "We are back. All executives have a clear work plan to advance the country, not just Bangkok, but other areas as well," he added, emphasizing policies to improve citizens’ living conditions and convenience.
When asked if the Democrat Party's previous score of 250,000 votes will change, Mr. Abhisit replied that it depends on the people. In the past four years, they had no direct opportunity. He thanked former governor Chadchart Sittipunt for satisfactory work but said the next four years will let people decide the city's direction. He believes Mr. Anucha, who has strong connections, will coordinate well, for example on cannabis issues, ensuring it won't become widespread if Anucha wins.
Mr. Anucha said Bangkok has many problems, but focusing only on issues is not enough; opportunities and hope must be sought. Convenient transportation is a priority. He wants the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) to be integrated into the city to serve residents in alleys and side streets, not just relying on motorcycle taxis. Electric vehicles will be introduced without concern for profit or loss. He assured there are ways to generate additional revenue for management and asked for voter support.
Asked about the tough competition against other parties and incumbent Mr. Chadchart, Mr. Abhisit said this is not a problem because political parties must present the best for the people, who will decide. He emphasized teamwork is important. He believes many initiatives Mr. Chadchart wanted to do require cooperation. Regarding ongoing corruption, the party has clear national policies for honest administration.
When asked if Mr. Anucha, who attended secondary school with Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, communicates with him, Mr. Anucha confirmed they are friends and talk without requests. He said, "We have come this far together. If you don't trust your friend, who else would you trust?" He indicated that Mr. Anutin knows him well as straightforward. However, when it comes to national duties, they act according to Democrat Party principles.
Asked about clarity on the deputy governor position, Mr. Anucha preferred to call it a working team, expressing openness to suggestions and policies. Mr. Abhisit added that the deputy governor role is not the only important position; district councilors also play a key role. He affirmed that Democrats have long been engaged with Bangkok residents, which is vital for accurately reflecting issues to the management team.
