NACC Clarifies Director of Investigation Office Not Deputy Spokesperson No Alcohol Test but Does Not Confirm Drunk Driving

The NACC clarified that the Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Office is not the Deputy Spokesperson as some media reported. The agency said it has received reports that no alcohol breath test was conducted but does not confirm drunk driving. It described the event as an accident and denied any claims of abusing a high-ranking position, emphasizing that all actions followed the law.,

28 May 2026 GMT+7 Mr. Surapong Intrathavorn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), commented on the case involving an NACC official who allegedly drove drunk and fatally hit a motorbike rider, saying the individual is indeed an NACC official but does not hold the position of Deputy Spokesperson as reported by some media. He is only the Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Office.

The NACC Secretary-General further stated that many aspects in the news exceeded the facts. According to information obtained from the official, the driver, who is an NACC official, said he was unsure if a collision occurred and therefore did not stop immediately at the scene. He only stopped after a large group of motorcyclists followed. Regarding drunk driving, reports indicate no confirmation of intoxication and no alcohol breath test was conducted. Information provided by the investigating officer to the NACC, the official’s employer, also did not mention this issue.

Reporters then asked further, “Can you confirm it was not drunk driving?” Mr. Surapong replied, “I will not confirm that, but the information received shows no alcohol breath test was done. We should wait for the police investigation report.” “However, the news coverage appears more severe than the facts we have. The NACC official insists it was an accident and denies boasting about his high-ranking position.” “The news seems to have miscommunicated the facts. This matter cannot be helped; everything must follow the law. An investigative committee has been appointed according to legal procedures. Initially, the NACC has sent officials to assist and support the victim’s family. We are not neglecting this matter and express our condolences for what happened.”

Later at 14:30, the NACC office issued a statement addressing media reports about an NACC official who drove a vehicle and fatally struck a food delivery worker at Bang Rak Noi overpass on Ratchaphruek Road, Nonthaburi, on 27 May 2026 at 23:00. The NACC expressed deep condolences for the loss and sympathy for the family, relatives, and close associates of the deceased. The NACC acknowledged that this incident has deeply saddened the victim’s family and the wider community. It clarified that the person involved is an NACC civil servant currently serving as Director of the Investigation and Special Affairs Office and is not the Deputy Spokesperson as some reports have stated.

Nevertheless, the NACC takes the loss seriously and is not indifferent. The agency will rigorously investigate the facts and proceed with disciplinary processes in accordance with principles of accuracy, transparency, and social responsibility. It affirms that all steps will comply with the law and no special privileges will be granted. The NACC will fully cooperate with relevant authorities in legal proceedings.
