Dr. Warong reaffirmed Thai Pakdee's position to uphold justice and reduce MPs' privileges beyond those of ordinary citizens, following the parliament's planned vote on the DSI's request to summon MP Chonnapat Naksua to acknowledge charges in an online gambling case.
At 14:30 on 28 May 2026 GMT+7, Dr. Warong Dechkitvikrom, a party-list Member of Parliament (MP) and leader of Thai Pakdee, issued a statement on the party's stance regarding the Department of Special Investigation's (DSI) letter summoning MP Chonnapat Naksua from Songkhla, of the Kla Tham Party, to acknowledge charges and be questioned during the parliamentary session in a case related to online gambling. Regarding Article 125 of the Constitution, Dr. Warong said its intent is to protect MPs during sessions, with three key points: prohibiting arrest, detention, and summons for investigation, primarily to prevent political harassment.
However, the crucial question is whether the DSI's summons of MP Chonnapat this time constitutes political harassment or is a lawful action by the DSI. He believes journalists and the public have their answers in mind.
Dr. Warong continued, that recently, all political parties have clearly declared opposition to shadowy financial interests. Therefore, MPs must consider in tomorrow's vote (29 May 2026 GMT+7) the case involving an MP accused of online gambling. The summons also alleges offenses of being part of a secret society and participation in a transnational criminal organization, raising the question of whether the case is linked to shadowy financial powers.
If MPs make a wrong decision, the public may question whether shadowy financial interests are being protected. Also, if the accused were not an MP, would the person have the right to postpone the case or refuse to meet the DSI? The concern is about law enforcement; if MPs are allowed to use privileges excessively, the public might view this as MPs misusing their immunity unreasonably.
In conclusion, Dr. Warong stated, Thai Pakdee's position is to stand for justice, seek to reduce MPs' privileges beyond those of ordinary citizens, and to ensure equal enforcement of the law. He therefore urges all MPs, if voting occurs, to allow the DSI to issue a summons for MP Chonnapat to provide testimony. This represents the party's stance on the upcoming event tomorrow.
