Democrat Party Prepares Legal Action Against Distortion Linking Blue Regime to the Monarchy

The Democrat Party spokesperson revealed that the party is preparing to take legal action against those who severely distort the meaning of the "blue regime" to imply it refers to the monarchy, causing social misunderstanding. Such actions are considered violations under the Computer Crime Act.

On 29 May 2026 at the Democrat Party headquarters, Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, the party spokesperson, addressed attempts to distort an interview with Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader, on a news channel. He explained that the interviewer asked whether the term “blue regime” actually exists. Mr. Abhisit responded that he did not intend to label any regime by color but offered a useful perspective for the country: current politics showing similarities to the past Thaksin regime—where the executive branch interfered with independent organizations—is harmful to democracy. However, some individuals and media outlets have seriously misinterpreted this, falsely claiming that the "blue regime" refers to the monarchy, the nation’s central institution, and accused Mr. Abhisit of opposing this regime. This slander has caused public misunderstanding.

The Democrat Party spokesperson added that the party is carefully gathering evidence and related documents to pursue legal action. They consider these acts serious defamation and also violations under the Computer Crime Act for distributing false or distorted information that causes harm to others and the public.

"We believe that truth and justice will be upheld, and this legal pursuit will serve as an important encouragement to establish new standards, helping Thai society sustainably overcome fake news," Mr. Pongsakorn said.
