"Rome" urges the government to instruct immigration authorities to detain the famous MP on the day the parliamentary session closes, fearing he might vanish using natural routes to escape the DSI case.
On 29 May 2026 GMT+7, the issue heated up in parliament immediately after the House of Representatives voted not to allow the transfer of Mr. Chonnapat Naksua, Songkhla MP from the Kla Party, to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for acknowledgement of charges and interrogation during the parliamentary session. The parliament invoked constitutional immunity under Article 125, preventing investigators from detaining him as ordered by the Attorney General.
Recently, Mr. Rangsit Rome, party-list MP from the Prachachon Party (PCHN), posted a warning on his personal Facebook to the government and security agencies, stating that in the case of Mr. Chonnapat, the government cannot afford to be complacent and must take proactive measures to prevent history from repeating itself with a high-profile fugitive fleeing the country.
Mr. Rangsit said that immediately after the last day of the parliamentary session or when the session closes, the government must order the Immigration Bureau to intensify surveillance to prevent escape. Moreover, on the final day, relevant officers should be ready to apprehend the famous MP directly at the parliament building.
He also emphasized that border security forces should conduct strict inspections and thorough x-rays at all points along the border to close off all natural routes used for illegal escapes abroad. He hopes the government will remain alert and act straightforwardly, not allowing the suspect to exploit legal loopholes and timing to disappear.
