Chadchart Emphasizes Caution Despite Leading Polls, Says Teamwork Over Past Month Has Meaning: Poor Performance Means the End

Chadchart emphasizes not to be complacent despite leading popularity polls, telling his team that their work over the past month matters and poor performance would mean the end. He admits that while campaigning, many problems have been found that must be urgently addressed.

On 29 May 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sitthiphan, independent candidate for Bangkok Governor No. 9, spoke about his second day campaigning in Bangkok Noi district. He described it as an old community area facing many issues, including narrow access routes, cramped neighborhoods, and flooding problems due to some private areas not being dredged, especially in Pho Riang community. Some alleys still experience waterlogging, and there are road problems with uneven manhole covers. All these issues require monitoring and resolution. Importantly, many communities have unique identities, such as Ban Bu community, known for stone bowl making, which has since ceased. In the future, he plans to strengthen these community identities, as each district has distinctive communities that can be developed into valuable areas and tourist attractions to boost the local economy.

During his visit to Wang Lang area near Siriraj Hospital, Chadchart observed that public health is essential, especially for provincial patients seeking treatment. This aligns with Bangkok's key policy on primary healthcare. There is a plan to increase the number of universal health cards; currently, Bangkok covers 800,000 people. After the Warm Clinic program was canceled, patient numbers increased significantly. Therefore, capacity must be expanded to serve 1,300,000 people. Additionally, there will be an expansion of the hospital network by 2,000 beds to facilitate patient transfers smoothly, preventing problems for the public.

Chadchart said that after two days of campaigning as Bangkok Governor candidate, he has seen many problems. The most concerning is the wastewater treatment system in Bangkok Noi district, which residents have urged to be fixed due to slow progress. If re-elected, he will expedite efforts to encourage contractors to be more proactive in serving the public. He also plans to raise the standards of Bangkok Metropolitan hospitals to match private hospitals. Future goals include ensuring that waiting times to see doctors do not exceed one hour, enabling patient data transfer from health centers to hospitals without carrying physical files, and possibly home delivery of medicines to avoid patients waiting at hospitals, thereby improving public healthcare services.

Regarding the issue of foreign labor competing with Thai workers, this has been raised repeatedly during his two days of campaigning. Bangkok Metropolitan's responsibility concerns illegal street vendors operated by foreigners. When municipal officials detect illegal stalls, they involve police and related agencies. However, if foreigners sell goods within shops, Bangkok authorities lack jurisdiction to verify their legal permits, as this falls under other agencies' authority.

"When people are angry, they often lack reason, and it’s difficult to explain to them because they are in an emotional state. The best approach is to listen and then explain the issues afterward. For example, today at Wang Lang Market, some residents told me that if I become governor, I shouldn’t act like a distant figure but should continue meeting people as before, not disappear. I felt reassured because I have been meeting people regularly throughout. Those who complain likely know who I am, but I also understand that people want a governor who is down-to-earth and listens to their problems. Over the past four years, I have been just like that, not distant from the people. Hearing this makes me happy because I am not like that."

Chadchart also commented on a recent popularity survey by King Prajadhipok’s Institute showing his increased approval. "Polls are samples and not 100% accurate. I appreciate the survey but remain cautious because politics can change within a month. Saying even one wrong thing can make people dislike you. I have repeatedly told my team not to be complacent and to work with mindfulness. Many think the race is already won, but I disagree. Everyone must vote; if people assume victory and don’t vote, it won’t reflect the true public will. So I constantly emphasize not to talk about polls but just to do our best. Please don’t trust polls blindly but focus on fulfilling your duties well." .
