Chanthep Walks Through Chatuchak and Rot Fai Parks Seeking Bangkok Residents Support, Promotes Extended Park Hours Policy

"Chanthep" walked through Chatuchak and Rot Fai Parks seeking Bangkok residents' support, promoting a comprehensive "extended park hours" policy including increased clean drinking water stations.

On 29 May 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep Sasavetch, also known as “Big Yom,” a Bangkok Governor candidate from the Economic Party, visited Chatuchak and Rot Fai Parks at 5:30 p.m., announcing plans to enhance security measures and urban quality of life after receiving complaints about public safety issues, ranging from sexual privacy violations against women to theft incidents.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep revealed after surveying the area that Bangkok's public parks currently face challenges undermining public confidence, including alarming facts such as individuals with mental disorders secretly photographing women exercising and crimes like motorcycle theft, which are unacceptable.

“Bangkok residents must not live in fear.”

“If entrusted as Bangkok Governor, addressing safety concerns will be my top priority. I will not allow incidents of voyeurism or harassment in public parks to recur. Drawing on my police experience, I know how to manage and supervise effectively. I will transform parks into spaces where everyone can truly enjoy happiness and safety, both in life and property.” Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep stated.

He promoted the policy of "extending park hours."

Regarding extending park opening hours to accommodate late-working individuals, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep affirmed his support but emphasized that this must be accompanied by comprehensive security measures and improved facilities, including increasing security personnel, installing CCTV coverage at all risk points, and enhancing lighting throughout the parks.

He plans to increase clean drinking water service points.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep noted that people exercising often have to carry their own water awkwardly, so he proposes “establishing clean drinking water service points” to support citizens, making their relaxation and exercise more convenient without the burden of carrying excessive belongings.

Additionally, Pol. Lt. Gen. Chanthep raised concerns about the transparency of park vendors, often perceived as being controlled by influential groups or “mafia.” He announced plans to overhaul the vendor auction system to ensure full transparency, allowing public access and scrutiny to prevent favoritism and fairly return public spaces to citizens.
