Piyawat Criticizes Current Finance Ministry for Robbing the Poor to Give to the Rich, Says Good Finance Minister Must Have Robin Hoods Heart

Piyawat pointed out that tax reform must not further burden the small earners. He proposed the government collect taxes from those more able to pay and emphasized that a good finance minister should have a Robin Hood spirit, unlike the current one who robs the poor to give to the rich.

On 30 May 2026, Mr. Piyawat Kittithanesaworn, Member of Parliament for Nakhon Nayok Province District 1 from the Kla Tham Party, spoke at the House of Representatives during the consideration of a motion to establish a special committee to study tax system reform for greater efficiency and suitability to the current situation. He stressed that tax reform must not become a new burden for grassroots citizens and small entrepreneurs.

Mr. Piyawat said that today many people face high living costs and uncertain incomes, while small business operators continually bear rising costs. Therefore, tax system reform should not be viewed merely as "who the state will tax more," but should look deeper into how to organize the tax system fairly for all parties.

He proposed that the government review the entire tax structure, having those with greater economic capacity bear more of the country's burden. At the same time, it must support small earners, low-income individuals, and small businesses so they can stand on their own, grow, and not be further burdened by tax measures that do not reflect the real economic conditions.

"Tax reform should not start by asking how much more to collect from the people, but by asking who has the greater ability to pay and how the state can help the weaker stand," said Mr. Piyawat.

The Kla Tham MP for Nakhon Nayok also compared a good finance minister to Robin Hood, someone who understands fair resource allocation principles and boldly shifts burdens onto those with greater capacity to create opportunities, reduce inequality, and raise the quality of life for those still lacking chances.

"A good finance minister must be like Robin Hood, taking from the rich to help the poor, not like the current one who robs the poor to give to the rich," said Mr. Piyawat.

He added that the state's duty is not to maximize tax collection but to ensure the country's burden is shared as fairly as possible. Small earners should not be left to carry the country alone, because if the tax system is unfair, taxes will not be a tool for development but will instead worsen inequality.

Mr. Piyawat emphasized that the Kla Tham Party supports fair, transparent tax reforms that align with the people's realities. Taxes should be a tool to reduce inequality and create opportunities, not a tool that increases burdens on those already struggling.

This debate reflected the role of the Kla Tham Party as a political party standing with small citizens, small entrepreneurs, and workers who need economic policies that understand real life—not just numbers on government documents but the survival of the people every day.
