“Asapol” leads the NACC committee team to reconsider laws reducing government discretion, preparing to join a major workshop by the NACC in July to restore investor confidence.,
On 30 May 2026, Mr. Asapol Santraipob, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Anti-Corruption and Misconduct (NACC Committee), revealed the results of a joint meeting with five allied agencies from the private sector and academia. This was under the task force “Zero Corruption: NACC and Friends Don’t Tolerate,” led by representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Thai Bankers’ Association, aiming to address transparency issues within government agencies.
At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Thanawat Polvichai, President of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and academic representative of the task force, explained the details of a transparency survey on government agencies. The survey followed World Bank standards and involved in-depth interviews with 401 business operators nationwide.
The task force emphasized that presenting these figures was not intended to accuse or single out any specific agency, but to reflect the "real experiences" of the private sector highlighting vulnerabilities. This approach aims to lead to concrete systemic reforms by proposing a six-pronged roadmap and preparing a workshop with government agencies to “turn off officials’ discretionary powers” and break the cycle of soliciting benefits.
After broad discussions on the impact of corruption on the country's competitiveness, Mr. Asapol endorsed the proposals and instructed the task force to promptly submit details on revising subordinate laws (ministerial regulations) along with strategies to promote "whistleblower protection laws" so the committee can advance these measures in parliament.
“Anti-corruption is not the responsibility of any single party but requires cooperation across all sectors. Real data and experiences from the private sector will help us develop a more transparent bureaucracy and reduce obstructive procedures. Furthermore, the NACC committee affirms it will participate in the task force’s major workshop scheduled for July 2026 to collaboratively integrate efforts and establish transparency standards that attract global investor confidence,” Mr. Asapol stated.
