The Deputy Government Spokesperson conveyed to small retailers in the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" program not to worry, affirming that the government does not send income data from the Thung Ngern app to the Revenue Department for retroactive tax assessments, emphasizing that income over the entire year is considered, not just during the program period.
On 1 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ploytale Laksamee Sangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, revealed that the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" (60/40) program received enthusiastic response on its first day. As of 13:00, 2,894,994 people had fully used their rights, with cumulative spending totaling 587.99 million baht. This spending was made through the "regular store" format.
Ms. Ploytale added that for retailers hesitant or confused about joining the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" (60/40) program due to fears of retroactive tax claims, the government assures them not to worry. Most participating retailers are small to micro businesses with annual income below 1.8 million baht, thus not subject to concerns about value-added tax (VAT). Tax liability is assessed based on average annual income, not just a temporary sales spike during the program. Retailers should not be misled by false rumors circulating by word of mouth. The government emphasizes that sales data from the Thung Ngern app will definitely not be sent to the Revenue Department for targeted retroactive tax collection. However, if a retailer's total sales income across all channels reaches the Revenue Department's minimum threshold, not only from the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" 60/40 program, they are required to file an annual personal income tax return.
"The total number of retailers who have completed registration, accepted the terms and conditions (T&C), and are ready to serve customers stands at 853,004 stores, comprising 781,567 existing retailers and 71,437 new retailers.
Additionally, there are retailers in the transition process: 199,990 are awaiting acceptance of the T&C, and 3,620 new retailers are pending verification. So far, 418,844 retailers have successfully generated sales within the system," she said. . Ms. Ploytale noted
