Governor of Sa Kaeo Province Takes Legal Action Against False News of Border Opening

The government is taking the fake news about opening the Sa Kaeo border seriously. The governor led the media to the area to confirm the checkpoint remains closed and has filed a complaint against those spreading false news that could cause unnecessary panic.

On 1 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that claims circulating on social media about the opening of the Aranyaprathet checkpoint in Sa Kaeo Province to allow Cambodian students to enter for schooling were false and had caused public misunderstanding about the border situation.

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul places great importance on managing the border situation, instructing all agencies to act with caution, consider public sentiment, and prioritize national security.

Recently, the Governor of Sa Kaeo reported to the Permanent Secretary of the Interior Ministry that he had ordered the Deputy Governor and security agencies to take media representatives to the Klong Luek checkpoint at 15:30 today (1 Jun 26) for on-site verification, confirming that the checkpoint is not open as reported in the media.

The Prime Minister's Office spokesperson said the media visit was a straightforward measure to show society the facts, preventing false news from causing confusion or distorting the state's security measures.

At 16:00, the Governor of Sa Kaeo authorized legal representatives to file a complaint at the Klong Luek Police Station against the Facebook account that spread the false information, under the Computer Crime Act, Section 14 (2).

“The government respects citizens' rights to express opinions, but spreading false border information is serious because it affects public understanding, disrupts officials' work, and may cause unnecessary panic,” Ms. Ratchada said.

Ms. Ratchada added that the government will implement measures regarding the Thai-Cambodia border based on security, law, and facts—not online rumors. Anyone spreading false news causing public misunderstanding will be held fully accountable under the law.
