Somsak said the Khao Kradong land issue should await the court’s ruling on who is right or wrong. He views Seripisut’s move to go to Newin’s house as political. He is unaware of any plans to meet Anutin at the Government House and stated this matter does not involve him.
At 09:25 on 2 June 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Somsak Thongsi, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, gave an interview at the Government House regarding the case of Police General Seripisut Temiyavet, party-list MP and leader of the Seri Ruam Thai Party, who traveled to meet Mr. Newin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United Football Club, at his residence in Buriram Province to demand clarification about the Khao Kradong land, on 1 and 2 June, saying that the land issue is currently under judicial process, awaiting the court’s examination of ownership claims between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and local citizens.
When asked about Seripisut’s motive in pursuing this matter, Somsak said it is normal for someone interested in such issues, but the key point is how to achieve clarity because the case has been under review continuously, including in court. He advised waiting for the court’s decision. The current activism is newsworthy, and since Seripisut is a politician, it is naturally a political matter.
Regarding the question of what Seripisut wants by confronting Newin, Somsak explained that part of the 5,083 rai land belongs to Newin, which is a fact. There are also many other government agencies and local people involved. Newin does not own all 5,083 rai but holds several parts with proper land title deeds and no disputes over possession. Therefore, when the SRT asserts claims, it must sue; the case is currently at that stage.
, When asked about Seripisut’s statement that he wants a one-on-one meeting with Newin, Somsak said he did not know as it is Seripisut’s matter. Regarding reports that if he cannot meet Newin, Seripisut would meet Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Government House, Somsak said he was unaware. He only saw news reports about the planned visit but did not know the purpose, emphasizing this issue does not concern him and he does not know whom Seripisut would contact.
On whether the case being in court might cause social misunderstanding, Somsak replied that nothing is better than the court process. When there is misunderstanding, the justice system can clarify. The court will decide who is correct regarding land possession, citizen land titles, and the SRT’s claims.
However, when asked if he would accept a letter from Seripisut to the Prime Minister, Somsak said he did not understand why he would need to be assigned and that he did not know what the letter would concern.
