Prime Minister Reveals Success of Vietnam Visit to Thailand, Elevating Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Anutin revealed strong Thailand-Vietnam relations, elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership. On 8-9 June, he will fly directly to Hanoi aiming to boost sales beyond 25 billion U.S. dollars.

On 2 June 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the Cabinet meeting outcomes. Before the agenda, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul informed the meeting of the success in welcoming Mr. Vo Lam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who made an official visit to Thailand as a government guest on 28 May.

The government spokesperson said the bilateral discussions were very close and smooth. Both sides agreed that Thailand and Vietnam are key and essential pillars of the ASEAN region with high potential. With the upgrade to a "comprehensive strategic partnership," there is an urgent need to drive joint mega-projects in economy, trade, investment, infrastructure and logistics connectivity, clean energy, future technology, and food security. The goal is to push bilateral trade value beyond 25 billion U.S. dollars (up from the current 24 billion U.S. dollars).

Reports state the Cabinet approved the draft action plan for the comprehensive Thailand-Vietnam partnership for 2026-2031. Prime Minister Anutin firmly instructed in the meeting that all ministries should view the Vietnamese leader's visit as a golden opportunity to transform "good relations" into "effective cooperation with tangible results." Most importantly, cooperation should not end on paper or in meetings but must translate into plans, projects, and outcomes tangible to citizens and businesses of both countries. He urged all ministries to pursue this seriously and continuously.

Ms. Ratchada added that the Prime Minister also revealed his important schedule: he will officially visit Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, upon invitation from President Vo Lam, and will participate in the ASEAN Future Forum (AFF 2026) regional summit on 8-9 June.

The government spokesperson concluded that the Prime Minister assigned all relevant agencies urgent tasks to review and analyze their work areas to identify issues that can be immediately advanced in negotiations with Vietnam next week—whether expanding trade shares, promoting cross-border investment, or jointly developing human resources—to drive Thailand and Vietnam's growth together as leading economies in ASEAN in 2026, a year of full flourishing influence.
