Ruttapon Nawarat, Minister of Justice, gave an interview regarding the case in which former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was named among those granted a royal pardon on the occasion of the grand royal celebration of Her Majesty the Queen's 4th cycle birthday anniversary. He said, "He is one of those listed to receive the royal pardon."
When asked about doubts concerning Thaksin still having one month and ten days remaining on his sentence, while some claimed he was already released, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapon replied, "According to the law, he is to be released immediately because the remaining sentence is less than one year, under Section 8."
However, when further questioned, whether the EM bracelet can be removed immediately, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapon stated the bracelet can indeed be removed. There will be an additional step involving a committee's review. Separate committees will operate in each province. Regarding details, he said he did not yet know the specifics or timing of those meetings. But he confirmed that Thaksin's name is definitely on the list. ."
