Pinthongtha was deeply moved and tearful upon Thaksin receiving a royal pardon. She expressed happiness for her father, joy for their family, and profound gratitude for the freedom granted, calling it the ultimate blessing for the children and family.
At 07:30 on 3 June 2026 at Sanam Luang, Ms. Pinthongtha Shinawatra Kunakornwong, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, gave an interview regarding Thaksin’s receipt of a royal pardon on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 4th cycle birthday anniversary. With emotion and tears, she stated: "I feel happy for my father, happy for our family and the other families who received royal pardons. Within the family, we talked but not in depth—just expressing joy for our family. From conversations with Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the former prime minister, we feel glad. Some time has passed, and now things are calm, but we remain joyful about what has happened. We feel deeply grateful for the freedom granted. Father is more at ease. This is the greatest blessing for the children and the family." When asked about daily life recently and whether Thaksin is spending time with his grandchildren, Pinthongtha said, "Father is at home. It’s quiet now, but the grandchildren visit frequently—there are seven of them visiting regularly." Asked if the family planned any merit-making activities, she replied, "The family regularly makes merit anyway. Going forward, it will be easier to go out, but we haven’t planned any specific merit trips. We will continue doing good deeds. Right now, I’m so moved that I’m speechless." When asked if the family had arranged any vacations, her husband, Mr. Natthapong Kunakornwong, said, "There are no plans yet, but today is certainly a joyful occasion." Asked whether their lawyer had explained the next steps after the royal pardon, Pinthongtha said, "We expect to wait for official procedures first."
