Anucha and Abhisit Campaign for Bangkok Governor, Highlight Democrat Team’s Seamless Governance and Increased Public Spaces Mark Demands Government Fuel Subsidy for Motorcycle Taxi Drivers

Anucha and Abhisit actively campaigned for the Bangkok governor position, promoting the Democrat Party team’s seamless coordination at all levels and plans to increase public spaces. "Mark" demanded the government provide fuel subsidies to motorcycle taxi drivers, following earlier promises to assist amid high oil prices.  They emphasized continuous support and assistance to affected groups.

At 07:00 on 3 June 2026, at Soi Phaholyothin 1, Phaya Thai District, Bangkok, Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, Democrat Party candidate for Bangkok governor number 5, along with Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democrat Party leader, and party executives such as Mr. Sakolthee Phattiyakul, deputy party leader; Mr. Ong-art Klamkaew, party leader’s advisor; and Mr. Anuchan Kwangthong, candidate for Phaya Thai district council number 7, joined a campaign to meet with residents. The atmosphere was lively, with locals, vendors, and motorcycle taxi drivers greeting them warmly and requesting photos. Anucha and party executives also participated in a Buddhist alms-giving ceremony to seek blessings in the area.

Mr. Abhisit said the response has gradually improved. Although initial support was limited, their on-the-ground efforts increased awareness and positive reception. He emphasized the need for hard work ahead. He announced that on 17 or 18 June, they will hold a rally to present comprehensive policies and share insights gathered during campaigning to the public. He affirmed that Bangkok can achieve more, as the five key issues Anucha raised address citizens’ core needs. Solving these requires skilled administrators with political experience. Additionally, they plan to promote optimal use of space. Bangkok authorities are already aware of these areas, enabling better planning and maximized benefit. In the past, land taxes were not fully collected because owners used land for agriculture to avoid higher rates. They believe such areas can be repurposed as public spaces, with incentives like tax reductions, potentially for art installations and parks.

Mr. Abhisit further stated he wants to question the government about the fuel subsidy program aimed at alleviating high oil prices. He has spoken with motorcycle taxi drivers who reported that despite the government’s announcement and registration process, many drivers have yet to receive assistance. The Finance Minister described the aid as targeted to effectively address the problem. Abhisit called on the government to clarify what happened to the program and said he will raise the issue again in parliament. Regarding the opposition party’s launch of Mr. Surapol Nitikraiphot as the chairman of their Bangkok governor campaign team, Abhisit said he is not concerned, emphasizing that political outcomes depend on the voters’ decisions.

Mr. Anucha said the primary issue in Phaya Thai district is narrow sidewalks. Motorcycles and cars pass normally, but pedestrian walkways have not been fully developed. Residents said sidewalk construction has taken years but remains unfinished. He stressed the need for oversight to ensure confidence if given the opportunity to work. If the Democrat Party leads, they will not allow such problems to persist and will bring these issues directly to the Bangkok Metropolitan Council and governor for faster resolution. Citizens have responded positively, appreciating that the Democrat Party is fielding candidates for both governor and all district councils, with senior party leaders participating in the campaign. This reassures the public that problems acknowledged by council members will be addressed effectively through coordinated teamwork at all levels.

Afterwards, Mr. Anucha and the Democrat Party team conducted a campaign parade along Phaholyothin Road and continued canvassing in Soi Ari, where vendors and residents warmly welcomed them. Subsequently, Anucha and party executives traveled to the Democrat Party headquarters on Setthasiri Road to participate in a ceremony signing a royal blessing card for Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her birthday, 3 June 2026, at the Earth Goddess statue plaza in front of the Democrat Party headquarters.
