Phuket Airport to Launch Automated Passport Control Lanes on 13 June to Handle Peak Passenger Flow

The government announces that Phuket Airport will launch automated passport control lanes on 13 June to swiftly resolve issues and enhance capacity to accommodate passengers during busy periods.

On 3 June 2026, Ms. Ploythele Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office, stated that following reports on social media about passenger congestion at Phuket Airport's immigration checkpoint, as well as concerns about fees charged for expedited immigration services, the government has ordered a fact-finding investigation. It is also accelerating problem resolution and improving efficiency to better handle passengers, especially during periods of heavy flight traffic.

To address these issues and facilitate tourists, Phuket Airport's immigration checkpoint is set to officially open automated outbound passport control lanes on 13 June. This system will help passengers pass through passport checks more quickly, reduce waiting times, and elevate immigration service standards to meet international criteria, supporting the growth in passenger and tourist volumes passing through Phuket Airport.

Ms. Ploythele emphasized that immigration services at Phuket Airport operate under the procedures and standards of relevant government agencies and that there is no policy to charge extra fees for special privileges in immigration processing. Phuket Airport focuses on convenience, speed, and security to provide a positive travel experience under the concept: "Safety is the standard, service is the heart."
