Pheu Thai Congratulates Thaksin Shinawatra on Royal Pardon, Denies Party Domination, Says No More Such Questions

Pheu Thai Party joins in congratulating Thaksin Shinawatra on receiving a royal pardon. Chulaphan Amornwiwat denies that Thaksin dominates the party and insists there should be no more such questions. He also denies that the party is backing Jirayu to bluff Chadchart in the race for Bangkok governor, noting it is a personal right.

At 11:30 a.m. on 4 June 2026 GMT+7, Chulaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labour and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, said at the parliament regarding former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra receiving a royal pardon and whether Pheu Thai would meet him: “We have not discussed this, but whenever his name is mentioned, everyone smiles. We congratulate the Thaksin family.”

, He confirmed that Thaksin no longer has any involvement with the Pheu Thai Party. That phase is over, and such questions should no longer be asked. The party is ready to move forward, driving its work based on the ideology and foundations established since the Thai Rak Thai Party era, with its own principles and beliefs. It aims to bring these beliefs to the people and advance its work according to its objectives without external domination.

Chulaphan also commented on the case of Jirayu Huangsap, former Bangkok MP from Pheu Thai, who mentioned corruption related to civil servant positions in Bangkok, referring to Chadchart Sittipunt, candidate for Bangkok governor, and whether he has the party's approval. He said there is no green or red light; this is Jirayu's personal opinion, possibly based on private information. He is exercising his rights as a citizen, not acting as a Pheu Thai member. Although Jirayu is a party member, it does not mean all members must follow the same path. Everyone has personal rights, and there is no need to summon Jirayu for questioning because Pheu Thai is not fielding a candidate for Bangkok governor. This local matter is to be handled independently.
