This discussion aimed to set Thailand's proactive position in addressing the overlapping continental shelf claims between Thailand and Cambodia, as well as to outline approaches for proceeding under the compulsory conciliation process according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), for which preparations have been underway for some time.
On 29 May 2026, prior to his trip to Paris, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs chaired the committee to consider solutions for the overlapping continental shelf claims between Thailand and Cambodia.
