Attakorn revealed that Klathum has withdrawn its support for the Pheu Thai party's constitutional amendment draft, fearing it conflicts with the Constitutional Court's ruling on the origin of Constituent Assembly members.
At 6:00 p.m. on 3 June 2023, Mr. Attakorn Sirilattayakorn, MP for Chachoengsao and spokesperson for the Klathum party, stated that the party has examined the details of the constitutional amendment draft proposed by the Pheu Thai party, especially regarding the drafting of a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly (CA). The party is concerned that parts of the draft may violate Constitutional Court ruling 18/2568, which established the principle that the parliament cannot allow the public to directly elect CA members.
Therefore, to prevent legal issues and ambiguity that may arise in the future, the Klathum party has resolved that its MPs who previously signed in support of the constitutional amendment draft withdraw their signatures from the Pheu Thai party's proposal. This is to ensure caution and alignment with the country's highest legal framework.
Regarding the possibility of the Pheu Thai party revising and resubmitting the constitutional amendment draft, Mr. Attakorn said that they will first review the details of the revised proposal. Then, internal discussions within the party will follow to consider whether to support it again or not.
