Sihasak, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, promptly reported to the Prime Minister after Cambodia initiated compulsory dispute settlement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) against Thailand. He also scheduled a briefing with diplomatic representatives and a press conference this afternoon.
At 09:35 on 5 June 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, arrived at the Government House to begin work. Before his arrival, Sihasak Puangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, had already gone up to the Thai Khu Fah Building to await reporting to the Prime Minister after returning from France. This was in response to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet submitting a letter to Thailand and the UN Secretary-General to initiate the compulsory dispute settlement process under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Sihasak also consulted the Prime Minister about appointing two members for the Thai conciliatory committee, with preliminary reports indicating that candidates are already prepared, anticipating Cambodia's move.
Earlier, Sihasak consulted with Thailand's international law experts, including French and British specialists with extensive and respected experience in international law forums, regarding Thailand's approach. It is expected that he will also report this approach to the Prime Minister.
At 14:00, Sihasak will present on Cambodia's notification of using compulsory conciliation under the United Nations Convention to diplomatic representatives at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a press conference at 15:30.
