Sophon Declines to Comment on Oppositions Call for NACC Investigation in Saksayam Case, Says Will Review Content if Submitted

Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the Parliament, declined to respond to the opposition and senators' request for a NACC investigation calling for the dismissal of the complaint in the case involving former Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob. He noted that if the complaint is submitted, he will accept it but needs to review the content first.

On 5 June 2026 GMT+7, Sophon Sarum, Speaker of the Parliament, spoke about the case where Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the People's Party in the House of Representatives, along with opposition coalition parties, planned to submit a letter to the Speaker under Article 236 of the Constitution. The letter concerns allegations that the NACC abused its authority by dismissing the complaint against former Minister of Transport Saksayam Chidchob. He said the letter has not yet been submitted, so he cannot respond at this time and must wait for its submission first.

When asked whether there would be a preliminary review of whether to accept the letter, Sophon said that the letter must be accepted once submitted, but they will review the content afterward.

Regarding the draft constitutional amendment by the Pheu Thai Party, and whether a delay in submission to the Speaker would postpone the scheduled meeting agenda, Sophon replied that he was unsure and that it depends on the members of parliament. The Speaker's role is to set the agenda. If the members are ready, the matter can be considered. He added that if they want the amendment process to proceed smoothly and quickly, they need to communicate and discuss matters openly.

Concerning the case where Senator Thewarit Maneechai revealed that civil society groups would join in submitting the constitutional amendment draft but might request the Speaker to extend the deadline to collect signatures, Sophon said, “I don’t know. I won’t respond to hearsay or various opinions being put to me.”
