Supamas sent the Consumer Protection Board to Huai Khwang to investigate reports that shops charge only in yuan. She is confident that 99% of stores participating in 'Thai Help Thai Plus' are not exploiting the situation by raising prices and encourages the public to report any leads.
At 11:10 a.m. on 5 June 2026 at the Government House, Ms. Supamas Isarapakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, addressed the case of shops in Huai Khwang accepting yuan payments. She said she had not yet received official reports and had only seen media coverage. She will verify details further. She heard that Huai Khwang is a district with many Chinese business operators, and she will have the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) conduct an on-site inspection.
Regarding reports that some shops participating in the 'Thai Help Thai Plus' program are taking advantage by raising prices, Ms. Supamas said that since the 'Half-Half Plus' program, which had some concerns, there have been almost no cases of vendors exploiting the situation. For 'Thai Help Thai Plus,' she has heard of only one case. Yesterday, the CPB visited the street vendor involved but found the shop closed. According to the Ministry of Commerce law, all products in Thailand must display their prices; failure to do so is illegal. When paying via the program's scanning system, prices must match the posted ones, including credit card or normal scan payments, where vendors enter the price before payment. If prices do not match, consumers have the right to refuse payment.
Ms. Supamas added that the public can report tips to the Ministry of Commerce. She believes that over 99% of vendors have no issues. Inspections by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anek Niti Prasong and Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Sutthampan, along with MPs visiting the area, received praise and smiles, noting the program has stimulated the economy and increased shop sales. Buyers have doubled their purchases. So far, there have been no complaints, only fears about potential problems that have not materialized.
