On 5 June 2026 at the Government House, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who received a royal pardon. When asked if they had met or talked, Anutin said they had not yet met or spoken. He said he expressed congratulations and felt everything was proceeding according to the proper steps. Regarding the scheduled removal of the electronic monitoring bracelet this Monday, Anutin emphasized that everything is proceeding as planned.
When asked if there would be future discussions, Anutin said that politically, he is currently communicating with Chulaphan Amornwiwat, Minister of Labour and leader of Pheu Thai Party, and with Yossanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, about the work of the coalition government parties.
Asked whether he believes Thaksin will truly step away from politics, Anutin said that, having worked as a minister under Thaksin before, he must believe in Thaksin's genuine intentions.
When asked if there is no concern about Thaksin influencing cabinet and coalition decisions, Anutin stated there is no need to worry. He said the real influence on cabinet decisions comes from the people, as the government listens only to the public. He assured that they are not under anyone's influence, which has been clearly demonstrated many times. The government must listen to the people, and this is not mere rhetoric but a fundamental truth.
Regarding Bhumjaithai's withdrawal of support from Pheu Thai's constitutional amendment draft and whether there had been talks with Pheu Thai's leader, Anutin said all matters were discussed with good understanding and there are no problems at all.
