"Dr. Joe Chaiwat" campaigns for Bangkok governor at Khlong Lat Mayom Market, engaging with vendors and demonstrating kanom krok making. He promotes the receipt lottery policy for SMEs in Bangkok to revive small retail business activity.
On 6 June 2026, Mr. Chaiwat Sathawornwijit, candidate for Bangkok governor from the Prachachon Party, number 10, visited Khlong Lat Mayom floating market in Taling Chan district. He was accompanied by Dr. Kantapong Deechaiya, candidate for Bangkok council member from Taling Chan district, number 1, and Anusorn Thamjai, Member of Parliament for Bangkok (Taling Chan-Tawi Watthana) from Prachachon Party. They met with vendors and tourists shopping there and presented the party's easy trading policies. During the visit, Mr. Chaiwat also joined in making kanom krok.
Mr. Chaiwat said Khlong Lat Mayom floating market is one of four floating markets in Taling Chan district, attracting locals and tourists, both Thai and foreign, for shopping. However, he noted that the market is quieter than before, when it was more bustling. Therefore, he is keen to introduce the receipt lottery SMEs policy version for Bangkok, which aims to stimulate trade for Bangkok vendors by encouraging people to support small local shops more.
Under this policy, when people buy goods from participating shops, every 20 baht spent earns one entry to win prizes. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will allocate a budget of 10 million baht per month for these prizes, allowing people to use their entries to win rewards. He believes this policy will motivate people to shop more at small businesses, restoring vibrancy to floating markets and communities across Bangkok.
Additionally, there is a proposal to develop "community tourism districts" by having Bangkok Metropolitan Administration collaborate with private sectors and local residents to leverage community identity and stories as selling points. They also plan to improve transportation systems to make it easier for tourists to access community tourist sites.
