Revenue Department Threatens to Sue Thaksin for Bankruptcy if Tax Payments Are Incomplete

The Revenue Department is accelerating tax collection efforts against Thaksin Shinawatra, stating that if the assessed tax payments are not fully received, they will consider filing bankruptcy proceedings to avoid losses to the government.

On 6 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the Revenue Department issued a document titled "The Revenue Department's Tax Collection Enforcement against Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra," stating that following a press release about enforcing tax collection from Thaksin Shinawatra under Supreme Court Judgment No. 6890/2568, which was read on

17 Nov 2025 GMT+7, the court ruled that the tax officer's assessment was lawful, thus concluding the case with final effect, making the tax debt according to the assessment definitive.

Mr. Somsak Anantawat, Strategic Tax Collection Advisor (Energy Business Group) and Acting Director-General of the Revenue Department, said that since the tax assessment of Thaksin Shinawatra, even though appeals are ongoing before the Appeal Board and courts, the Revenue Department has continuously pursued the outstanding taxes under legal frameworks by issuing payment reminders, investigating all assets for seizure and attachment to recover the debt.

Currently, the Revenue Department is tracking Thaksin's assets both domestically and abroad, coordinating with various agencies to find ways to enforce tax debt repayment.

However, after exhausting tax enforcement measures, if the Revenue Department does not receive full payment as assessed, it will consider filing bankruptcy proceedings against Thaksin Shinawatra within the legal statute of limitations to prevent losses to the government.
